Scam Alerts (fake jobs on whatsapp/fake websites/Social media ads/fake crypto payments)

At Scorptec, we would like to make you aware of potential scammers that are impersonating various retailers including Scorptec with deceptive tactics designed to steal personal and/or financial details.

Here's a simple guide to help you recognise and avoid some of the presently known scams in circulation in recent times...

1. Job Offer scams

  • Be cautions of unsolicited job offers claiming to be from Scorptec
  • Such as offers without a formal application process
  • Flexible e-commerce online job that can be completed in your free time with no experience required- this is a scam job.
  • Fake job to pick orders remotely to boost sales and receive a e.g. 1% commission for work. This is a scam.  For more information on these type of scams, see https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/about-us/news-and-alerts/scam-alert-jobs-and-side-hustle-scams
  • Please refer to our official https://careers.scorptec.com.au/jobs website for all current job listings and apply through there.


2.  Fake Websites

  • Impersonation websites that look like Scorptec.com.au but have slight differences in the URL or appear unprofessional.
  • Always check the website URL before making a purchase.
  • Look for the padlock icon in the address bar and ensure the URL starts with "https://"

3.  Social Media Scams

  • Fake social media accounts or messages offering discounts, giveaways, or asking for personal details.
  • Only follow and interact with verified Scorptec social media accounts.
  • Be wary of too-good-to-be-true offers
  • Always check the account name/details as they are made to look similar, but are in fact fake.

4. Fake crypto payment Scams

  • A fake logo and branding that closely resembles a well-known cryptocurrency company. This can include a similar font, color scheme, and overall design.
  • Scorptec does not receive nor give payment using any crypto payment methods.

Reporting a Scam

If you suspect you have encountered suspicious scam activity:

  • Contact Scorptec directly through our official customer service channels to check if it is official, and update us about the possible scammer methods and activities. 
  • Please do include screen captures and URLs to help us identify the source easily (if you can do this safely)...
  • If you wish to report the scammers to Australian authorities, you can disrupt these scammers via reporting the scam at https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam
  • Should the platform of contact be Whatsapp. You can proactively report the scamming number to Whatsapp and they can have the phone number for review. Goto the triple vertical dots -> More -> Report, and Block and Report the number to them for further review.  For other platforms there may be similar methods of reporting scamming activities.
     
  • Should the platform of contact be Instagram. You can report a
    • post through Feed:  Click ... Options in the top right of the post. Select Report and follow the on-screen instructions.
    • someone through their profile: click their username from their Feed or story post, or click Explore and search their username to go to their profile.  click ... Options next to their username. Select Report; then select the type of account you want to report and follow the on-screen instructions. 

By staying informed and cautious, you can protect yourself from scam targeting customers of Scorptec and other retailers.

Always remember: if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
